With an aging population in the USA and in most countries and the prevalence of chronic illnesses, pain, weakness and sensory loss present as t major disabling components of illness. The treatment of chronic pain in particular is frequently unsuccessful due to the failure of many to make the proper distinction between acute pain, which is a symptom of an immediate tissue injury, and chronic pain, which serves as an indication of physical changes that have occurred subsequent to the original injury. Unsuccessful treatment often occurs as a result of an overemphasis on the initial tissue injury, rather than a comprehensive approach which takes into account the possibility that physical and psychosocial changes and suboptimal vocational and domiciliary circumstances that may have occurred before, during or subsequent to the original illness or injury.

As specialists in the treatment of chronic illness and pain for over sixteen years, Dr. Massumi and staff at Massumi Associates are well aware of the myriad needs of and treatment options for the chronically ill individual. Therefore, the approach at Massumi Associates is multi-disciplinary and utilizes a programmatic, stepwise professional and comprehensive treatment program.
